Interview with Paul-Henri Masson, co-founder of Chocolat des Français
Portrait
Did you get into chocolate when you were little?
Like all children, I obviously loved chocolate, but I would say that I really discovered the beauty of this product a little later, when I was an art student.
And what about made in France?
Made in France seemed like a no-brainer for us. We must promote local talent where it exists.
Tell us about the origin of French chocolate.
We were big foodies, crazy about chocolates but also passionate about art and design. We simply wanted to reconcile these two worlds and create the chocolate bars of our dreams, as pretty as they are delicious, and of course 100% made in France.
The anecdote that marked your entrepreneurial adventure.
A friend of mine likens entrepreneurship to an emotional roller coaster, and it's incredibly true! You can go from immense joy to incredible disappointment in the same day, and vice versa!
According to you, Made in France: a fad, a communication tool or a real, viable economic solution?
I think it's a bit of all of these things at once. Made in France may have been a fad at first, but it has gradually become a lasting trend; it's a real underlying trend. It's also a great communication tool because the values of Made in France are very strong and address real issues. Finally, it's a wonderful opportunity for consumers to participate in the country's economic growth. In the end, everyone wins.
What is your vision of French craftsmanship?
I think there has definitely been a resurgence of interest in craftsmanship in recent years. The French are hungry for beautiful and/or good things, produced simply, by one person from A to Z. There is something incredibly reassuring about knowing how and by whom a product that you hold in your hand was created. The unfiltered interview
